June 12, 2021Women are still underrepresented in the tech industry. The number of female employees in tech roles in America's largest tech companies (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft) is about 23%. (Based on self-reported company figures). The story is no different across Africa and in Ghana.
A change in socio-cultural thinking and targeted programs that equip girls with digital skills are the solutions needed to bridge the gender gap in the tech industry.
The National Pre-tech training program is an example of a targeted program that seeks to equip young African women with fundamental digital skills to encourage ladies to pursue careers in tech.
Ho Node Hub working with Soronko Academy selected Twenty ladies in the Volta region for a three-weeks pre-tech training program in Ho. The pre-tech tech program curriculum is gender-sensitive and structured to introduce the ladies to the fundamental concepts that would be taught in the advanced courses. The training program was hands-on, interactive and fun.

All the ladies would enrolled on Ghana Tech Lab's Base program for advanced training in digital media.
