Ghana has a vibrant youth population (36 per cent of the population). The majority of young people in Ghana live in urban areas such as the regional capitals. However, the youth dividend has not realised due to the growing unemployment. The 2015 Labour Force Report (Ghana Statistical Service, 2016) estimated 12. per cent of the youth are either unemployed or underemployed. The global COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the unemployment challenges since many companies had to shut down.
Digital technologies and skills, such as digital marketing, web development, social media management, graphic design and others, are rapidly changing the nature of work post COVID. The number of jobs requiring digital skills is estimated to grow by an estimated 12 per cent by 2024 (Robinson et al., 2018). However, the youth have limited information about the opportunities available in the digital space and how to position themselves to land digital jobs.
To address this challenge, Node Hub in partnership with Ghana Tech Lab under the Pathways to Sustainable Employment (PaSE) Project, presents Ho Digital Jobs Fair. The Fair is under the theme, “Creating Sustainable Employment Through Digital Skills” in collaboration with the Ho National Service Personnel Association. The Ho Digital Job Fair presents a recruiting platform that aims to connect young graduates looking for entry-level jobs in the digital space like the mobile app, web development, graphic designing, digital marketing industries to potential employers.
The day-long event comes off on Thursday, 3rd December 2020, at the Rotary Community Centre, behind the Assembly of God Church, Ho from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Activities marked for the day include Forums and Seminars aimed at orienting job seekers on job opportunities available in IT and the digital space, how to prepare for a first entry job, CV reviews, interview tips, and many more. Startups in our community also get the opportunity to exhibit their products and services to the public to create brand awareness and to meet sales targets.
