A medical solutions application named ‘Pocket pharmacy’ has won a startup pitch at a start-up summit in Ho.
Pocket Pharmacy is an initiative to increase access to medical care through the use of a mobile application that allows patients to quickly reach a medic with just a tap on the phone.
The solution also allows for patients to purchase their prescription by comparing prices and having their medications delivered to them without the hustle of moving around pharmacies especially when one is not well.
Pocket Pharmacy could not have come at a better time than now when the omicron variant of the coronavirus is threatening lives.
With the Volta Region fast becoming an academic environment due to the sheer number of academic institutions sited in the enclave, the population of the also rises correlatively hence the need to address challenges with access to medical care especially among the rising student population.
Pocket Pharmacy is an initiative of a group of three young people who participated in a Mobile App development training organized by the Ho Node Hub with support from the Ghana Tech Lab.
The training equipped participants with much-needed skills in mobile applications development and an opportunity to exhibit the acquired skills at a local startup summit.
The participants, after the summit, are admitted to a business incubation or internship program to prepare them for a market launch of their products or to help them secure jobs.
The partnership between Ho Node Hub and Ghana Tech lab has seen about 75 youth receive mobile app development training since the inception of the program in Ho.
Ghana Tech Lab which sponsors the training is an ecosystem builder and hub for competent digital skills training. It provides seeding for innovations and helps grow startups.
