January 14, 2022Three business startups have been awarded a sum of GHs. 36,000 and Business Incubation at the Volta Trade Fair Pitch Contest.
The contest is an innovation challenge organized by Ho Node Hub in partnership with the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Volta Regional Coordinating Council and Ghana Tourism Authority as part of the Volta Trade Fair which took place between November 15 and 27 2021.
The focus of the event is to give the startups exposure and provide support to them with Business Development support and a grant.
The event, which took place at the GNAT Hall in Ho saw successful entrepreneurs, CEOs, Managers of financial institutions, businessmen, SRC executives and stakeholders in the ecosystem in attendance.
The event started with a panel discussion on driving investment and sustaining an entrepreneurial culture in the Volta region.
The panel included Daniel Dzamesi, a senior product owner at Jumo Ltd, Courage Asase who is the Managing Director for Ho Node Hub, Chis Amponsah Sackey; the regional director at Ghana Exports Promotion Authority and Zakaria Ziblim the; Zonal Manager of Exim Bank, Volta region and Oti.
The panellists discussed ways in which startups could build a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem and startup culture to drive investment in Startups in the region.
The pitch session saw six (6) startups from sectors such as Tourism, Health Innovation, E-Commerce, Clean Energy/Waste Management and AgriTech pitch their businesses to a three-judge panel.
AgriHype which is an AgriTech startup that is into promoting actors in the agricultural value chain in Africa through storytelling emerged winner of the contest and was awarded a cash prize of Ghc 13,000.
Waste management startup ‘WasteMan’ placed second and took away a cash prize of Ghc 12,000.
Volta Market Online, an e-commerce marketplace that brings together SMEs and Customers to transact business placed third and took home a cash prize of Ghc 11,000.
All three winners will be enrolled on the Node Venture Incubator program where they will be provided with a co-working space as they receive business and technical support to build and take their products to market.
