May 1, 2023Greetings and a warm welcome to the inaugural quarterly update blog of Node Eights in 2023! We are thrilled to share with you our remarkable journey of the past few months, brimming with a plethora of riveting activities and events. Without further ado, allow us to provide you with a comprehensive overview of our recent endeavors.
January kick-started an action-packed year for Node Eight as we laid the groundwork for a fruitful year ahead. Alongside our regular staff and team meetings, we conducted stimulating brainstorming sessions and engrossing group discussions, culminating in the setting of concrete goals and targets for the new year. Furthermore, we forged an exciting partnership with the Project Management Institute to conduct a project management workshop. This intensive training aimed to enhance our ability to plan and execute projects with precision, promote seamless collaboration and communication, manage risk effectively, allocate resources appropriately, increase project visibility, align projects with organizational goals, stimulate innovation, and cultivate best practices. Our commitment to excellence is unwavering, and we are excited to share the fruits of our labor with you.
March was a month of dynamic collaborations and exciting events at Node Eight! We partnered with esteemed organizations such as the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, Association of Ghana Industries, and the Ho Cycling Club to stage the Ho Bike Tour – Ghana at 66 commemorative Independence Anniversary Day Ride – Volta 2023. This landmark event had a myriad of positive effects on the community, fostering eco-tourism, spotlighting Ho’s natural beauty and diversity as a potential tourist hub, and unifying the community in a fun and engaging manner.

We were also privileged to participate in International Women’s Day celebrations in the Volta Region, anchored on the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.” At the event, we displayed our innovative vision board, highlighting diverse technology careers that young girls could pursue. Our commitment to empowering and promoting gender equality through technology remains unwavering.

In line with our unwavering commitment to promoting gender equality, we collaborated with the Young Urban Women Movement of ActionAid to host a career guidance workshop in STEM for young girls in Ho. The workshop, themed “Bridging the Digital Divide: Harnessing the Capacity of Young Women for Innovation,” provided invaluable insights into the myriad of tech careers available for young women, laying a sturdy foundation for their future success. We remain committed to empowering young women and promoting gender parity through technology and are excited to play our part in shaping a brighter future for all.
Our launch of the Healthy Cities for Adolescents Project (HCA-II) was phenomenal, as we teamed up with other consortium members, including the LoveAid Foundation, Ghana Education Service, and Ho Municipal Assembly, to kick-start this groundbreaking initiative. At the inception meeting, the consortium members expertly outlined the project’s theory of change and tackled key implementation-related issues, setting the tone for successful project delivery. The HCA-II is a project funded by the Botnar Fondation and administered through Ecorys UK. The HCA-II project is poised to significantly impact the health and well-being of adolescents in Ho. We are excited to play our part in realizing this vision and shaping a brighter future for all.
Our dedication to creating a sustainable impact on the community we serve was evident in our hosting of representatives from Deloitte and the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme-NEIP. The visit formed part of the due diligence phase of the Hubs Acceleration Grant Programme, which is supported by The World Bank. Our pursuit of funding opportunities goes hand-in-hand with our mission to promote diversity and inclusivity in tech, and we remain committed to expanding our capacity to support the community. With a steadfast focus on sustainable growth, we are confident that we will continue to make a positive impact on the community we serve.
Finally, we partnered with BlueSPACE Hub, Ghana Innovation Hub, Innovation Spark, and BlueCrest University for an exceptional seminar on Empowering Women in the Digital Space. The seminar celebrated remarkable women who have excelled in the tech industry while inspiring young women to pursue careers in tech.
We hosted our monthly Last Friday Hangout as part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive tech community. The attendees had an enjoyable evening filled with games, music, and valuable networking opportunities, making it a memorable way to close the quarter.
To sum up, the first quarter at Node Eight was a thrilling ride, and we are eager to continue with the same momentum for the rest of the year. We remain resolute in our commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity in the tech industry and working towards a more equitable society.
Keep your eyes peeled for further updates on our upcoming events and activities, as we endeavor to keep you informed and engaged.
