Tell us about your musical journey and what inspired you to pursue a music career.
6ca: My musical expedition began during my university days when I discovered my love for the guitar. Level 100 was when I first picked up this enchanting instrument, and I slowly honed my skills. Small birthday parties and local gigs paved the way for me to gain confidence and share my musical creations. However, my journey as a vocalist began much earlier in primary school, during music and dance classes. I vividly recall singing along to Barbie songs, truly unaware that those childhood melodies would shape my musical destiny.
Can you share a bit about your high school experience and how it shaped your musical path?
6ca: High school proved to be a bit of a musical detour for me. The thought of placing the spotlight solely on myself felt overwhelming. Moreover, the pressure of joining the school choir and being obligated to perform at various events made me hesitant. So, during those years, I decided to take a step back from the stage and focus on exploring my other interests. Little did I know that the universe had grand plans for my musical journey just around the corner.
My love for playing the guitar reignited after high school, particularly during a series of church events that took place after my WASSCE exams. The infectious energy of those performances awakened something within me, a desire to express myself through music. During this time, my father surprised me with my first guitar, acknowledging my dedication and love for the instrument. From that moment on, I knew that my musical journey was about to take flight.
How did your upbringing in a music-loving family contribute to your musical development?
6ca: Growing up, I was fortunate to be surrounded by music-loving parents. My mom’s participation in a choir and my dad’s constant soundtrack of melodies instilled in me a deep appreciation for music from an early age. In fact, my siblings also have their own artistic talents, with one of them pursuing singing like me, while the others excel in modeling and dancing. The harmony of our shared love for the arts truly sets the stage for a musical family affair.
What genres do you primarily focus on, and why do they resonate with you?
6ca: I have a strong affinity for soul music, but when it comes to performing, my heart is drawn to the vibrant beats of Afrobeat and Afropop. These genres possess an undeniable energy and infectiousness that resonate not only with me but also with the audience. Although I enjoy exploring diverse musical styles and experimenting with different sounds, when it is time to hit the stage, Afrobeat and Afropop take centre stage, creating an electrifying atmosphere for everyone to groove together.
Tell us about your experience performing in the Last Friday Hangout.
6ca: Performing at the Last Friday Hangout has been a remarkable journey. I saw friendly faces everywhere I turned. The audience’s anticipation and enthusiasm warmed my heart. The thoughtful messages I received before performing tonight, expressing excitement to see me on stage, filled me with gratitude. Stepping onto the stage felt like a reunion with dear friends. I liked the Last Friday Hangout. It was amazing.
Cherished Milestones:
6ca: Every show I have been fortunate to perform at holds a special place in my heart. Each performance becomes a personal achievement, a testament to my growth and dedication. Among the highlights, I was honoured to be a part of the pre-independence concert, a memorable experience that will forever be etched in my memory. Another milestone was gracing a significant stage during the Kings of Comedy Tour, held at the Ho Technical University. These moments allowed me to reach a wider audience and gain recognition for my craft. Additionally, the release of my first single brought immense joy as it garnered 2000 streams on Audiomack alone within the first two weeks.
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects or releases?
6ca: The future holds immense promise and creativity. I’m excited to announce that there are new songs on the horizon, eagerly waiting to be released into the world. I’m currently in the process of creating the music video for my song “Antagonist” and simultaneously working on a new track that will follow its release. So, within the next month or so, expect a wave of fresh music.
What message would you like to share with fellow musicians and youths?
6ca: To fellow musicians and youths, I leave you with these words: You only live once. Embrace the life you love and love the life you live. Don’t succumb to external pressures or compromise your artistic vision. Follow your passion, stay true to yourself, and pursue your dreams on your own terms. Remember, life is too short to live someone else’s dream.
As I reflect on my journey, particularly the unforgettable Last Friday Hangout, my heart brims with gratitude for the unwavering support I’ve received. Music is more than a hobby or career; it is a way of life. Through my performances, I strive to create an atmosphere where people can forget their worries and embrace the joy of the moment. So, join me on this melodious adventure, and let’s dance to the rhythm of life together!
