Rethinking Our Cities for Young People: A Blog Series
May 8, 2025On March 28, 2025, Node Eight teamed up with Bula Lounge and Aces Events Media to throw the Last Friday Hangout: Ghana Month Edition! This evening celebrated Ghana’s vibrant cultural heritage through storytelling, performances, and awesome community vibes. The event brought together over 50 young pros from all sorts of fields—tech, media, fashion, and the creative arts.

The night kicked off with a fun puzzle game. The players were tasked to identify Ghanaian dishes (Waakye, Jollof, Fufu, Pito, Sobolo, Banku, and more!) in the word puzzle by circling them. They also explored iconic places in Ghana and legendary figures in our history. It was an exciting kickoff to see the faster trend-spotter.

But that’s not all! There was a canvas with cool sketches of Ghanaian cultural designs, and participants had the chance to bring them to life by painting with the materials we provided. It was a chill and vibrant vibe where everyone got to connect, network, and have meaningful convos while celebrating all things Ghanaian!
The second session of LFH was full of energy, thanks to MC Joana and MC Bone. They kicked things off with “Down by the Riverside,” making everyone laugh and feel nostalgic. The vibe was perfect, leading straight into cultural trivia, mini-performances, and interactive networking games that kept the fun rolling.
One of the standout moments of the night was the storytelling session with Rtd. Captain George Nfojoh, a two-time District Chief Executive of the Ho Municipal Assembly. He shared some amazing insights about the transformation of Ho, its rise as a regional capital, and key historical milestones. His reflections gave everyone a deeper appreciation for the region’s history and development!

The highlight of the evening was definitely The Maverick Group’s stage play, The Plight of the Ghanaian Youth. The drama followed two young individuals navigating life after national service—one opting for a 9-to-5 job and the other pursuing entrepreneurship. Their struggles with societal expectations, personal disappointments, and the clash between dreams and reality resonated deeply with the audience, sparking genuine conversations about the challenges facing Ghanaian youth.

The games continued throughout the night, from photo identification quizzes testing guests’ knowledge of Ghana’s history to taboo-style word games and classic board games that encouraged bonding and friendly competition.
Of course, no Ghana Month celebration would be complete without music. The night wrapped up with vibrant Ghanaian rhythms filling the air as attendees danced, sang along, and soaked in the joy of togetherness.
