Ho, March 26, 2024 – The Young and Safe Project has today launched the “Ho Youth Well-being Index 2023”. This comprehensive report delves into the well-being and circumstances of young people in the Ho Municipality, Ghana.
The Ho Youth Well-being Index 2023 has been developed through the collaborative efforts of the Node Eight Foundation, Love Aid Foundation, Ho Municipal Assembly, and the Ghana Education Service. The report is a key component of the Healthy Cities for Adolescent Program – II, funded by Fondation Botnar and managed by Ecorys Ltd.
In response to the launch, Courage Asase, the project manager for the Young and Safe initiative, expressed how the three-year project aims to transform Ho into a youth-friendly city. He highlighted that the initiatives have been specifically designed to align with the findings of the report, ensuring that they target and tackle the identified issues to improve the well-being of young people in Ho. “As part of the Young and Safe project, we hope to build a world-class park in Ho by the end of the 3 years.” – he reflected. This park will contribute to enhancing the well-being and recreational opportunities of the youth in Ho Municipality.
The Ho Youth Well-being Index 2023 is a comprehensive assessment of the well-being and circumstances experienced by young individuals aged 13 to 25 in Ho Municipality, Ghana. This index gathers data across various domains, including community and civic participation, economic opportunity, education, health, safety, and equity, to provide valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by the youth in the region.
The overall score of the 2023 Ho Youth Well-being Index recorded 57.0%, falling within the “Average” range, indicating areas for improvement in various well-being aspects to achieve a higher future score.

The report adopts a specific definition of youth, spanning ages 13 to 25, and aligns with the World Health Organization’s comprehensive concept of well-being. Consolidating available data into a unified measure and addressing critical data gaps provides valuable insights and advocates for improved data collection efforts.
