Transforming Open Spaces into Communities of Learning, Play & Friendship

What is Ghana Open Park Library?

The Ghana Open Park Library is an open-air community library set inside the newly revitalized Ho Youth Park. It is designed to inspire young people to read, learn, and connect in a welcoming outdoor environment.

The library will feature outdoor shelves, comfortable seating, and a growing collection of books in English, Ewe, German, and French.

It will provide a safe, vibrant space for daily reading, creative exploration, and friendship building — all free and open to the public.

Why an Open Park Library?

A safe and vibrant space has the power to transform a community. In Ho, there are very few places where young people can safely relax, read, learn, and build positive friendships. Without such spaces, many are left vulnerable to negative peer pressure, often gathering in hidden corners where harmful activities like drug use, early sexual activity, and petty crime take root.

The Ghana Open Park Library in Ho will change this. It will give young people a welcoming place to gather daily around books, games, and community activities. It will create a healthy environment where learning, play, and mentorship are part of everyday life. Keeping young people engaged in positive experiences at the park will help them stay focused, build confidence, and make better choices for their future.

Background of the Ho Youth Park

For many years, the Ho Children's Park was abandoned and overtaken by scrap dealers and mechanics, making it unsafe for children and young people to use.

Seeing the urgent need for safe public spaces, Node Eight working in a consortium with the Ho Municipal Assembly, Ghana Education Service and LoveAid Foundation, with support from Foundation Botnar, began redeveloping the area into a multi-purpose youth park.

The Ho Open Park Library is the first phase of the exciting step in restoring the park into a dynamic center for learning, play, and community connection.
