Across the world, digital technology is reshaping education—making learning more personalized, automating administrative tasks, and helping teachers engage students in innovative ways. In Ghana, the push to integrate technology into classrooms is gaining momentum, in line with the ICT in Education Policy, which promotes digital literacy, technology-driven teaching, and expanded access to quality education.
Recognizing this shift, Node Eight & Jesi AI hosted the maiden AI for Teachers workshop on December 20, 2024, at Patfields Educational Complex to introduce educators to the power of AI in enhancing teaching efficiency. The workshop focused on how AI broadly and Jesi AI specifically, our AI-powered assistant, helps teachers streamline lesson planning, generate curriculum-aligned teaching materials, and improve student engagement.
Insights from the AI for Teachers Workshop
Courage Asase, program manager of the Young and Safe Project, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing that the goal of “AI for Teachers” is to support educators in their teaching processes and enhance learning outcomes rather than replacing their roles.
He pointed out that as Ghana and the world continue to implement these advancements, it is crucial for us to do the same. We cannot afford to be left behind in this rapidly evolving educational landscape.
Building on this theme, Felix Sam, an AI and Machine learning Engineer and the lead trainer for the “AI for Teachers” event, discussed the importance of leveraging large language models (LLMs) and other AI tools to enhance teaching and learning.
Felix explained how LLMs can understand and generate text, providing valuable outputs for educators.
“The goal of the session was to help teachers understand AI’s role in education, create lesson notes, and utilize AI tools to produce visual teaching resources, such as images and videos.” – He stated.
Hands-On with JESI AI: Practical Tools for Everyday Teaching
Felix emphasized the important role of AI in education, highlighting how it can improve various aspects of teaching and learning. He showcased several key AI tools:
chaptGPT: A smart content creation tool.
Gradescope: An automated administrative tool.
In particular, he showcased a practical example with Jesi AI’s AI lesson planner, designed to facilitate effective and quick lesson planning for teachers. Felix guided participants on how to use this tool, demonstrating how to implement lesson plans effortlessly by simply providing the subject, topic, grade level, duration, and learning objectives.
Participants shared their experiences, highlighting the practical benefits of the workshop.
“It has been a good and thoughtful experience. I have learned how to upgrade my teaching and learning skills, which has significantly improved my approach. Overall, AI is incredibly helpful in increasing productivity,” said Dotsey Dzifa Genevieve, a teacher and participant in the AI for Teachers workshop.
“Jesi AI lesson planner is fantastic and easy to work with, helping me to develop more skills for my teaching. It reduces stress and makes my work much easier,” remarked Promise Broni, another teacher.
As AI continues to transform various sectors, its integration into education is not only beneficial but essential for keeping pace with a rapidly evolving world. Building on the success of this pilot workshop, Node Eight and Jesi will soon launch a series of “AI for Teachers” workshops aimed at equipping 1,000 educators with practical tools and insights to leverage GenAI in their classrooms, enhancing both teaching efficiency and student learning outcomes.
For teachers navigating growing workloads and limited resources, AI presents an opportunity to save time, improve instructional quality, and better support students.
