In 2014, Meltwater, a technology institute reported that twenty-six (26) million people out of 93 million mobile phone owners come from Ghana with the country also recording the highest mobile phone penetration in Africa in 2013.
This means now more than ever, there is an up
surge in mobile application usage with Mobile Phone service providers scouting for new and innovative software for their growing subscribers.
To encourage the design and creation of these innovative mobile applications, talented youth and stakeholders in the Digital Innovation Space were urged to regularly conduct regular needs assessment for their communities in order to build innovative applications and solutions that cater to their immediate ecosystem.
The advice came on the premises of the role mobile applications can play in job creation and ultimately in the transformation of the Ghanaian Economy. The topic was the focal point of discussions held during a Consultative Stakeholder Engagement Forum on Saturday, 25th September in Ho.
A keynote speaker at the Event, Head of ICT at the Ho Technical University and Director for Centre of Education Research and Training, Mr. Mawuli Agbenorto, said for digital talents to make significant impact, it was imperative for the young talents to be solution oriented especially with a focus on providing solutions to businesses through innovative technology.
The Consultative Engagement Forum held in Ho by Ho Node Hub in partnership with the Ghana Tech Lab with support from the MasterCard Foundation’s Young African Works program and the World Bank, was focused on Mobile Application Development and its numerous opportunities for the teeming youth especially in stemming unemployment.
It also sought to among other things, inform and identify current market needs of industries, companies, job market and skills gaps.
The Hub having completed its base program in Digital Media Training is set to begin its next base program in Mobile Application Development.
Managing Director of Ho Node Hub, Mr. Courage Asase, said the engagement was significant since it needed to pull in more input from stakeholders in the ecosystem to chart the course of the base program and curriculum for the year.
Node Hub has over the years cultivated fruitful relationships with various stakeholders including those from Academia, startups and other significant stakeholders to ensure a holistic contribution in its impact projects in the ecosystem.
