At Node Eight, a key part of our strategy is to create a deliberate and nurturing environment where talents can grow and thrive. Last year, we embarked on a journey to become the partner of choice for students at Academic City University, offering them the opportunity to spend their summer vacations interning with our venture studio and working on real-time projects.
Read on as we explore the journey of Akosua Essilfie from Academic City University.
My Internship Experience
As an intern, one of the most exciting aspects of my experience was being part of the New Product Design team. I got firsthand exposure to the entire product design process, learning the ins and outs of innovation in the Ed-tech industry. It really opened my eyes to how much thought and creativity goes into developing new products, and I gained a deep appreciation for the importance of design in shaping educational technology.
A major part of my role was developing a curriculum for the Shuri Club, an Ed-tech initiative aimed at enhancing the learning experience through technology. I was tasked with creating a comprehensive curriculum that aligned with the project’s goals and addressed the needs of students. This was a huge opportunity for me to apply my knowledge of STEM and educational technology in a real-world setting. Not only did it challenge me, but it also helped me grow my practical skills in a way that felt incredibly rewarding.
In addition to curriculum development, I conducted in-depth research to identify schools that could potentially partner with the Shuri Club initiative. This process expanded my understanding of the educational landscape and gave me a chance to sharpen my research and analytical skills, which are essential in this field. It was rewarding to see how my research could contribute to the broader goals of the project.
I couldn’t have done all this without the guidance of my supervisor, Joanna Kwame. Her support was invaluable—she always provided clear instructions and was there whenever I needed help. Joanna’s mentorship made a huge difference, ensuring I was able to navigate my responsibilities with confidence.
Overall, my internship at Node Eight was an incredibly enriching experience. It gave me the chance to work on meaningful projects like the Shuri Club, participate in the New Product Design team, and explore the education sector through research. This opportunity helped me grow both professionally and personally, and I’m truly grateful to Node Eight for offering such a dynamic and supportive environment for interns like myself.
